How to Confirm Your Current Major

Locate your academic interest or interest code:

To view what your current major is listed as:

From the “Academics” drop-down menu, choose “My Progress.”

Once you are in your advising information, click on the “Academics” tab to access your interest code.

How to Update Your Major if You Are A...

If you have applied to KU and are waiting for a decision or have been accepted, you can update your application at https://admissions.ku.edu/update-your-application. This will start the process of KU Admissions updating your application and student profile. If you are changing your major to one that has competitive admission, they will pass along your information to that school.

If you are updating your major to Exploring, you will select “Deciding:” with the student pathway you are most interested in.

Changing to a major in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Email collegeundergrad@ku.edu from your KU email account with your new major interest. Be sure to include the major and degree type (BA, BGS, BS, etc.). If you are not sure what major, concentration (if applicable), or degree type, schedule a meeting with an advisor for that major by calling the JAA front desk (785-864-2834) or going to a drop-in advising appointment with an advisor for your new major.

Changing to a major in a KU Professional Schools

You will need to complete a Change of School Form and meet the admissions requirements for that school (see the “Professional School Admissions Requirement” section below). If you do not meet the admissions requirements or if you are outside of the application window, then you will want to update your major to a “pre-code” major. For a pre-code major, you will follow the instructions for Changing to a major in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the major interest code you will ask for is adding “pre-” to whichever major/school you want to pursue (i.e. pre-secondary education, pre-business, etc.).

Changing to a major in a KU Professional School

Every school has a different process for changing majors within the school. Your first step will be to meet with our advisor to discuss the process or go to a drop-in advising appointment with an advisor for your new major.

You will need to complete the Change of School Form. If you are changing to a major within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, all you need to do is submit this form as they do not have any admissions requirements. If you are changing to a major in a professional school, you will need to complete the form and meet the admissions requirements for that school (see the “Professional School Admissions Requirement” section below). If you do not meet the admissions requirements or if you are outside of the application window, then you will want to update your major to a “pre-code” major. For a pre-code major, you will complete the Change of School form to change to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences as your new school, and your new major will be “pre-” whatever major/school you want to pursue (i.e. pre-secondary education, pre-business, etc.).

School of Health Professions

First change major to a pre-code for the major you would like to pursue. Then you will need to apply, more information about application prerequisites is found here: https://prehealth.ku.edu/

School of Pharmacy

First change major to pre-Pharmacy. Then you will need to apply, more information about application prerequisites is found here: https://prehealth.ku.edu/. At KU, you will complete the pre-pharmacy courses and apply to the School of Pharmacy progressing directly towards your Doctorate of Pharmacy (with the possibility of earning a bachelor's degree during your studies)
